Construction Crews to Mobilize On Site

Brice Building Company, the contractor for the 5th and 6th floor construction project, has been given its notice to proceed, meaning that construction crews should begin mobilizing on site, behind the new perimeter safety fence, beginning Monday (Sept. 23) this coming week.

Library users and those walking by along Freret Street can expect deliveries of construction materials, equipment, and dumpsters for construction debris through the main gate into the construction zone. Work within the site will likely include site preparation, set up of storage containers, some tree trimming (not removal), and general contractor mobilization. Some noise outside the library can be expected from electric tools, trucks, chain saws, and Bobcat loaders. Each day work on the site will end by 5 pm.

Next week will also see a “kick off” construction meeting between the contractor and Tulane’s principals on the project scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Rare Latin American Materials Accessible to Visitors Off-site

Beginning tomorrow (Friday, Sept. 6), library users will be able to access the rare materials of the Latin American Library at Howard-Tilton's off site facility at 900 S. Jefferson Davis Parkway, which is located about two miles from Tulane's uptown campus. These materials were moved off site over the summer as a special precaution in advance of the Howard-Tilton 5th and 6th floor construction.
